Samantha La Verde
Web Design Team Lead
Hi! My name is Samantha and I'm the digital communications team lead of the 2019 EMERGE Magazine Website. When I'm not working on web design, you can find me throwing people in the air at cheerleading practice, playing with make up, or drinking bubble tea with my friends. Two interesting facts about me are that I can ride a unicycle, and I'm technically allergic to the sun.
Is the managing editor of the EMERGE print magazine and a former intern at CBC News Network. She has seen more of Canada than the average Canadian and has also ventured south of the border by-road to over 30 states.
Hello! My name is Kay Evans-Stocks, and I am a fourth-year Media Student at the University of Guelph-Humber. Currently, I am living in Toronto, Ontario and working at Tucows Inc. as a graphic design intern. As a media and pop-culture enthusiast, I enjoy discussing and writing about topics surrounding film, music, and social media. My passions include graphic design and web design, and I am at my best when I am camping in the green hills of Vermont, listening to old music, and surrounded by those that I love. A few things many do not know about me is I have lived in Rome, Italy for a year, memorized 251 digits of Pi, and broken my heel trying to master the art of parkour.
I am a firm believer that a compelling photo can speak the words that we could never vocalize
My name is Katelyn O’Brien and I am a fourth year media studies student specializing in journalism. I can typically be found in a constant state of stress with an illustrator file open on my computer. I love cheese more than most people. Writing is slow and steady process for me that only happens in the strangest times. I am the co-editor in chief of the print magazine and I love helping people find where to go in their stories
I am a journalism student passionate about investigative and foreign news. I have written many articles from Ontario survey to address sexual violence on post-secondary campuses to From Mimico Branch Asylum to Humber College. I also own my own photography and videography studio, and work with children with mental disabilities. I do my best work on the way to exotic destinations such as Singapore, Malaysia and Mexico. I love reading crime novels, listening to horror podcasts and staying up to date with the latest news. Three fun facts about me are: I once broke my pinky toe by running into a wall, I can touch my nose with my tongue and I can speak three different languages.
Hi there! My name is Gaby Gonzalez and I am a 4th year journalism major at the University of Guelph-Humber. After graduating I am looking into working in broadcast, with my dream job being to work for CNN as a news anchor in the future. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, I learned to speak the language from a young age as well as going to French immersion school for 13 years, making me trilingual. During the winter I enjoy snowboarding with my big sister and friends (preferably in the rocky mountains in Banff). Another important part of my life is my beagle Max, who my parents got me for my 18th birthday.
